6. Old Business.
    a. CWO OER Training clinic will be hosted by the CWOA this November (date TBD). Volunteers needed. See CWO4 Joe Myers to volunteer.
 
 
7. New Business.
    b. Membership discussed the current state of the Yorktown CWOA Chapter with regards to numbers and active participation continues to be an issue. CWOA is looking for options on how to increase our visibility.
    c. BOD discussed the possibility of initiating monthly dues for the Yorktown CWOA Chapter to increase active participation among members.
    d. BOD discussed idea of Turkey Raffle and Golf Tournament as possible fund raising events in the upcoming month. See CWO2 Litka to volunteer.
    e. BOD discussed ideas for possible Food and/or Clothing Drive for Community Relations during the holiday months.
    f. BOD discussed the possibility of collaborative efforts with the CPOA and CGEA for events during the upcoming months. To be addressed by Chapter President.
 
 
8. Good of the Order
    a. 06 October 2009 – The Yorktown CWOA swore in the newly selected Yorktown CWOA Chapter’s Officers.  
 
 
b. 07 October 2009 – The Yorktown CWOA Officers were present for the swearing in of the Yorktown CPOA Chapter’s new officers. We wish our counterparts the best of luck in their new positions:
   
 
 
    c. 22 October 2009 – TraCen Yorktown Chief’s Mess held their Chief’s Call To Initiation for this falls PCPO’s.

I want to thank those members that were able to attend this months CWOA meeting and the swearing in of our new officers. There is so much that this chapter is able to do, but we need everyone to step up and be an active participant. Fundraising and community projects should be at the forefront of this organization. Your ideas and comments are appreciated, so please send them to me.

Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008. A flawless execution of this technique in competition would result in ippon, or instant win. (U.S. Coast Guard Photo/Petty Officer 3rd Class Mark Jones) On 22 August, 2009 BOSN Pete Mantel earned 3rd place at the World Master's Judo Match in Atlanta, Georgia.  Mr. Mantel has been leading the Coast Guard Judo Club for five years here at Training Center Yorktown.  Membership in the club has not required a fee or even a military I.D. card.  Dedication and commitment, and a positive attitude have been the dues.  In addition to representing us at the Master's, the club members have earned medals at the local, regional, state, and National level.  One, possibly more, members show significant promise for the Olympics.  That is - Honor, Respect, and Devotion to Duty in action.  Congratulations Bosn Mantel.  Thank you for efforts, you make us all proud to call you brother.  What do you say; maybe just one more match?

            a.  President called to our attention the Chiefs Mess would like us to provide them with our

            Official Liaison for future joint sponsored events. CWO Myers thought a great

            opportunity and volunteered to act as our liaison.

  • b. President called to our attention the Portsmouth/Norfolk chapter would be interested in holding meetings with the Yorktown chapter and possibly working together in future events.
  • c. President called to our attention the CWO Breakfast with the CO has been rescheduled for 0715 on 25 June 2009. 

6.  Old Business.

  • a. CWO Carriere working on the logo for shirts and price markup of items.

 7.  New Business.

  • a. The CWO Breakfast with CO has been rescheduled to 25 June 2009 at 0715.
  • b. Consider TCY 50 Year Celebration for 10 July 2009. Anticipate including a CWOA coin in the new time capsule.
  • c. John Crisano and CWO Whitney Jones will man a table for Spring Fling with others devoting an hour to assist with this. Tickets will be sold until 11 June for those purchasing tickets late.
  • d. Discussed how to advertise the link to sell items from the YCWOA site.
  • e. CWO Carriere passed info discussed from the May CWO National Convention. Some topics mentioned were membership in the National CWOA, spending limits, criteria for distinguished member nominations, the new members voted in, etc.

The seven CWO's were joined by  family, friends and shipmates as the Master Of Ceremonies, TCY CWOA Vice President Andrea Currie (BOSN4) gave a brief history of the Chief Warrant Officer.  Guest speaker LCDR Brian Huff gave an inspiring speech on the great responsibility that they now willingly accept and bare.  Soon after Captain Milne proceeded to swear the Warrants into their new rank.

The cermony ended with many congratualtions and best wishes as they all prepare to move forward and do great things for their newly assigned units and the Coast Guard.  I know I speak for all the Chief Warrant Officers at Yorktown in wishing them the very best in all of their future endevores, challenges and leadership opportunities.

On July 10, 2009 Training Center Yorktown will be unearthing a time capsule buried on July 15th, 1984. The ceremony will include RADM Faigle, USCG (Ret.) who will inventory the items contained in the capsule and presented to Captain Milne. Representatives from all Yorktown Associations will be present to participate in unearthing and raising the time capsule.

On July 24th, 2009, there will be another ceremony at the end of the 50th anniversary of TCY where Captain Milne will dedicate a new time capsule to be unearthed in the year 2034 - 25 years from now. Once again all training center Yorktown association including the Chief Warrant Officers will be present to place the time capsule in position and unveil the new placard.

The collection of artifacts placed in the new time capsule will be representative of the interaction of all the associations on Training Center Yorktown in the year 2009.
